Modernisme in the Maresme.
The legacy of Domènech i Montaner and Puig i Cadafalch

Along this nearby coastline north of Barcelona, and particularly in villages such as Canet de mar, Mataró and Argentona, we can find some of the most remarkable Modernista buildings created by several talented architects, especially by two of the leading figures of Catalan Art Nouveau: Lluís Domènech i Montaner and Josep Puig i Cadafalch.

The old farmhouses that have been turned into real castles and palaces, and the mansions where those creators lived, one of them (in Canet de Mar) coverted into a museum, help us to understand the scope of the talent and imagination of this artistic movement on the borderline between the 19th and 20th centuries.
